The Immigrant Experience

That's my title for lack of something better at this point. Those of us who were part of the teleconference on Aug 12 discussed the possibility of a show that producers around the country could contribute to. ... KCSB is working on a story about the Dream Act: a way for transnational students to get financial aid. Also, we have a reporter interested in conducting interviews at Santa Barbara's Day Labor Line. Personally, I know a woman who just secured a green card after living in U.S. for many years.

Should we have a focus (deportations? struggle to learn English? labor issues?) or could we do a hodgepodge?

Is anyone else interested in putting together several shorter stories to make up a Sprouts segment? Is Doug George/Sprouts managers interested in such a venture?

Jeff amd Weber talk about this project, and the Heartland Labor Forum has had many stories on the immigrants issues that have developed over the years from a labor perspective.  Depending on what perspective you are looking for this might be valuable stuff for your project.  You can hear some of these at www.heartlandlaborforum.org

then pick out the shows you would like to listen to.
